Team Minnesota is back on top as champions of the Hockey Night in Boston Girls Summer Showcase, as they downed the Shamrocks, 4-2, in the title game, winning its first crown since 2012.

Two goals a minute and 42 seconds apart late in the second period broke open a 1-1 deadlock and send the Minnesotans on to victory. Both teams finished the round-robin portion of the tournament with identical 3-1 records…

2015 Girls Showcase Championship Game Recap

Team Minnesota is back on top as champions of the Hockey Night in Boston Girls Summer Showcase, as they downed the Shamrocks, 4-2, in the title game, winning its first crown since 2012.

Two goals a minute and 42 seconds apart late in the second period broke open a 1-1 deadlock and send the Minnesotans on to victory. Both teams finished the round-robin portion of the tournament with identical 3-1 records.

Minnesota beat Eastern, 3-0, in one semifinal, while the Shamrocks held off Mass. Public/Catholic, 3-2, in the other semifinal.

The winners grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first period when defenseman Elly Strunk struck for a goal at the 7:43 mark, assisted by Grace Peluso and Mary Kate Eiden.

The Shamrocks tied it 1-1 at 11:22 of the first period when forward Halle McKay got loose for an unassisted goal.

It was 1-1 at the halftime intermission before the two quick goals propelled Minnesota on its way.

Jordan Anderson made it 2-1 at 10:17, firing home a pass from Maddie LaPanta. At 11:59, Peluso made it a 3-1 contest, assisted by Emily McLaughlin.

The lead expanded to 4-1 at 3:09 of the third period when Maddie Kolbow buried a breakaway goal. Anderson drew an assist on the goal.

The Shamrocks continued to press offensively, and narrowed the margin to 4-2 when tournament scoring leader Amanda Conway turned on the afterburners to get past the defense and tucked home a backhander. The only assist on the goal went to Gracie Arsenault.
